For years now, Monster Hunter is regarded as one of 'those franchises' that just can't quite catch hold in the West, however unlike the Yakuza series and Dragon Quest, Generations is the most accessible the series has ever been.

Basic gameplay revolves around living the fantasy life of a a titular monster hunter, darting between various villages, accepting contracts, felling increasingly large beasts and wearing their hides for your next battle.

There is a 'story' inasmuch as boss creatures do pop up at regular intervals, but for the most part you'll be crafting new weapons, posse'ing up with fellow Hunters around the world, collecting rare items to unlock new recipes and - above all - challenging yourself to see what massive beasts you can bring down.

The bigger they are, the fancier the loot, and it's this motivation that'll lead you to playing for hours upon hours at a time.
