It's hard to imagine anything could p*ss of Mass Effect fans more than the ending to Mass Effect 3, yet here we sit at the end of 2017 and Mass Effect: Andromeda has obliterated all fan hope for the series.

BioWare faced a tremendous amount of woes during the development of Andromeda, which led to a stale and subpar game for the Mass Effect series. The switch to Frostbite was a nightmare for the team, as it wasn't designed to handle an RPG like Mass Effect.

Most of the features in the system had to be built form the ground up by the already understaffed team. That understaffing being felt the most in the animation department as previously stated.

Andromeda had been in development for years, but according to reports, almost all of the game was developed in 18 months. This was thanks to a plethora of problems like a director change, multiple parts of the team being divided by multiple time-zones which fractured communication, an understaffed animation team and a switch to a new engine.

In the end, Mass Effect: Andromeda would be the worst reviewed game in the series, and one of the worst in general for BioWare. As a result, BioWare Montreal, the studio behind Andromeda would be downgraded to a support studio and all story DLC for Andromeda was cancelled. EA has essentially frozen the series, as BioWare has moved onto Anthem, leaving the fate of Mass Effect in the air but looking bleak.
