This past year wasn't a good year for Microsoft exclusive games, and the cancellation of Scalebound did not help in the slightest.

Having been announced way back at E3 in 2014 by Platinum Games and being headed by Hideki Kamiya, the man behind the much beloved Bayonetta, there was a great amount of hype surrounding Scalebound. However, rumors started circulating the game had entered development hell, a fear that was confirmed when Microsoft decided to pull the plug.

Microsoft tried to ease players after the cancellation stating, "We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences."

Crackdown 3 was delayed into 2018. State of Decay 2 was delayed into 2018. Sea of Thieves was delayed into 2018.

All the Microsoft exclusive "blockbusters" they mentioned, excluding Halo Wars 2, ended up being pushed back. It turned 2017 into one of the weakest years Microsoft has ever had for exclusive content with the most anticipated of those exclusives being completely canceled.
