10. XCOM 2: Alien Hunters DLC - The Rulers

The Alien Rulers were a new type of enemy that was introduced with the Alien Hunters DLC. Now while it's certainly not your traditional boss fight, the enemies are a lot harder than your normal ones and when killed give the player the ability to craft new armor based on the abilities of which ruler was killed.

There are three Alien Rulers in total: Viper King, Berserker Queen and Archon King. Players will only ever face one at a time during a mission, and the next will only appear after the previous has been defeated.

What's so unique about these enemies is that they aren't specific to a mission, they follow the player if you fail to kill them or allow them to escape. It forces players to craft a new strategy for an evolving battle that could take place over the course of multiple missions, depending on execution. While some may or may not consider it a boss battle, it's always nice to see things brought at the player in ways they aren't expecting - a stronger and persistent enemy that stalks the player is a unique and welcome challenge.
