7. Rogue Legacy

Choice Quote: "That all you got?" "It hurts!" "Try again!" "Dos thou even hoist?" - Alternating phrases given when hitting the training dummy. In a similar vein to Fez the humour in Cellar Door's infuriatingly-hard Rogue Legacy is intrinsic to the game itself, as the core game mechanic is playing through a never-ending bloodline of knights all trying to conquer one particular castle. The twist in the tale is that each time you die, that's it for that particular character, and upon restarting you'll be playing as one of three heirs who each have randomly generated statistics. These range from things like being colourblind and suffering from dwarfism to the world spawning upside down, and even having incredibly frequent bouts of flatulence that'll kick in whenever you attempt a jump or dodge. Needless to say it's all very tongue in cheek and comes across very well, which is a good thing as you'll die in this game a lot. If the game didn't make it so easy to just give things one more go and pick another random character, it would have failed completely. If you thought Dark Souls was hard, Rogue Legacy is the 2D version, the only thing carrying over between your characters being the assets you build before heading into the castle. However if you're looking for a challenge and are able to laugh at your own failings more than putting a controller through the TV, Rogue Legacy's got you covered.
