15 Most Mind-Blowing Video Game Plot Twists Of The 2000s

3. Both Main Characters Are The Same Person - Manhunt 2

Rockstar aren't usually a developer to pack their games with a focus on revelatory gubbins, instead they're happy to give you all sorts of gigantic sandboxes, before shouting "Go play!" and watching the carnage commence. For Manhunt it was a little different though, not only was the first game easily one of the best games of the 2000s, charting the hunted-becomes-hunter tale of James Earl Cash, but for part two Rockstar decided to take a page out of a certain Chuck Palahniuk book; that of dual identities. Playing as Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper, you're the former and initially more apprehensive of the two, attempting to break out of a criminal mental institution following an event in your 'mysterious past' being the trigger for your incarceration. When all's said and done you'll have discovered everything from a top secret military project to split-personality disorder, Metal Gear-style brain-wiping and the main revelation that Leo and Daniel are the same person. Many overlooked this game simply because of the former's gore-heavy focus and backwards drag through the media circus at the time, and although this second instalment was initially banned in many countries for being simply too graphic, it played spectacularly, had a very immersive and interesting story, and all-round expanded on everything the original had done in every respect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6et9eKXM8Q Side note: I actually remember a magazine review at the time describing the plot as "Think Fight Club and you're halfway there" Genius isn't it? What a vague description that in no way gives anything awa- oh.
