10. Dom's Wife Is Actually Dead - Gears Of War 2

Gears is one of those franchises that tends to get short thrift simply because of its focus on action tropes that over the years (thanks to guys like Michael Bay) have gone stupendously downhill. You may no longer see hulking mounds of man-muscle thwarting the terrorists and saving the day, but Gears is the one franchise that was a fire-tipped tribute arrow straight to that slowly drifting 90s action movie carcass. In part two, Epic decided to up the emotional ante for their characters, delivering some finality to Dom Santiago's initial search for his wife, but shot in a very unique way that nobody saw coming. Coming up on the compound where many of the humans have been taken by the evil Locust, he manages to locate his wife's cell. Opening it we're greeted by the sight of Maria as how she must've been before she was taken. The camera whirls around, her true state is revealed, and after an extremely touching exchange where Dom realises what he must do for the better, the drive to get revenge on the horde of upcoming enemies was nigh-unmatched.
