15 Most Overrated Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)

6. Inside

Hellblade Senua Sacrifice
Playdead

Inside is one of the most gorgeous games in years. The animations alone are almost worth the price of admission, and the way the developers at Playdead brought their vision of a horrific dystopian future to life is tragically beautiful at times, but if you expect more from your games than great presentation, then Inside might not be for you.

Because while it's visually stunning, the title's platforming and puzzles leave a quite bit to be desired. Very rarely challenging and often solved by simply dying over and over again, each new roadblock the game throws at you doesn't feel rewarding to get through.

The platforming and chase sequences fare a bit better than the puzzles however, as their cinematic nature is more in line with the game's design philosophies. Once again these are brought down by cheap deaths and obstacles that can't reliably be countered on a first run, meaning that the only way to learn what to do is once again to die first.

The story is too obtuse for its own good as well. There's a fine line between being ambiguous to invite discussion and being ambiguous to hide the fact that you have nothing to say, and Inside seems to fall on the side of the latter.
