Although it received a much warmer critical reaction than the original, Destiny 2 is far from the radical improvement that it should have been. Sure, this time around there's a proper story campaign, but that doesn't automatically mean that all of the problems that plagued the original game have been fixed.

Just like the original Destiny, once again there's not a lot to this sequel, and it's clear that the focus is still on the daily grind. A story is there if you look hard enough, but the developers don't try to hide the fact that the whole point of the game is to repeat activities in order to get slightly better loot.

Likewise, the new plot never matches the same sense of importance or gravitas the original Halo trilogy enjoyed, despite trying twice as hard as that franchise ever did. It's dull, and takes itself far too seriously.

The gunplay is as great as it's ever been, but if you can't get on board with the grind, even that won't be enough to sustain your interest.
