15 Most Ridiculously Difficult Challenges In Final Fantasy History

1. Dodging 200 Lightning Strikes (X)

Final Fantasy VII
Square Enix

Like most games in the franchise, Final Fantasy X featured a series of 'ultimate' weapons that could be collected. Uniquely, each of these were useless unless they were powered up by two items, a crest and a sigil. Each crest could be found in treasure chests throughout the game, whereas each sigil was the reward for a different side-quest or mini-game.

Some were much easier to obtain than others - Auron's merely required progress in the Monster Arena that was essential for endgame character development anyway, for example. Others were more frustrating (Catcher Chocobo anyone?) but nothing came close to the suffering that had to be endured to get Lulu's.

The game's Thunder Plains area was detested by most players and rightfully so. Lightning could strike players at any time, knocking them back and wasting their time. A miniscule window was given to react to and dodge each strike, though successful evasions were often the result of sheer dumb luck rather than skill.

Lulu's sigil required the avoidance of two hundred strikes in a row without fail. There was no in-game counter, so the numbers had to be mentally tallied in tandem with the inhuman level of focus required to actually complete the challenge, just to make things easier...
