15 Most Ridiculously Difficult Challenges In Final Fantasy History
12. Completing The Rubicus (Type-0)
Final Fantasy Type-0's mission-based structure and time-limited events meant that it had far more missable content than the average game.
Thankfully, something akin to a completion tracker was offered to players in the form of the Rubicus, a book that was split into five sections documenting all storyline events uncovered (Annals Of Orience), all characters encountered (Historical Personae), all summons acquired (Eidolon Arcana), all adversaries fought (Enemy Compendium) and all sidequest tasks completed (Record Of Service).
Fully completing the Rubicus was an enormous undertaking. The aforementioned time-limited events meant that not all tasks could be completed in one playthrough. Character entries had multiple pages to collect, whilst eidolons were mostly tied to the replaying of missions under certain parameters (such as advanced difficulties) or the completion of spontaneous directives mid-battle.
The Enemy Compendium was perhaps the easiest section to master, whilst the Annals Of Orience was by far the most difficult, requiring perfect time management across two playthroughs to complete all of the necessary missions, tasks and conversations associated with each of its entries.
The fact that the game's formula quickly became dull made one playthrough a slog, let alone two or more. The game's Platinum trophy was much easier by comparison, requiring a minimal level of completion.
