15 Most Ridiculously Difficult Challenges In Final Fantasy History

9. The 'Treasure Hunter' Trophy (XIII)

Most Final Fantasy trophy/achievement lists have been perfectly reasonable with little deviation from what a completionist would seek to do when playing the game anyway. There have been a few that have been downright horrible, but none more so than Final Fantasy XIII, which had one trophy, 'Treasure Hunter', that tacked on countless hours of additional grinding.

It required players to possess every weapon and accessory within the game at some point and sounded simple on paper given that the vast majority were obtainable as mission rewards or as purchasable items from shops. Complicating things was a crafting system that required items to be upgraded into superior versions and one crafting catalyst, the Trapezohedron, was the stuff of nightmares.

Players required six in total, yet they could only be acquired (with a 1% drop rate) from one of the game's toughest enemies or purchased at 2,000,000 Gil a piece. The same enemy would drop an item that sold for 150,000 with a 25% drop rate, but that still meant that 74 battles out of 100 would yield nothing, resulting in endless frustration.

XIII-2 and Lightning Returns were much more generous in their demands, making their respective Platinum trophies much more commonplace in player's collections.
