15 Most Ridiculously Difficult Challenges In Final Fantasy History
7. Racing Hippaul (IX)
Final Fantasy IX had more than its fair share of complicated challenges. Most could be easily completed with persistence and the consultation of a guide, though racing Hippaul couldn't be made any easier in any way whatsoever.
For some reason, player's could become employed as an NPC named Hippaul's personal trainer and engage him in footraces, which required the rapid pressing of two buttons in succession until the finish line was reached.
Rewards were given for every ten 'levels' that Hippaul gained. The first few races would see him gain up to ten in one fell swoop, but that quickly dropped to one at a time. Coupled with the fact that he got faster and faster each time, getting to the higher levels required a degree of button mashing ability not seen since the days of International Track And Field.
Level 80 was required to get the best reward - a unique (albeit pointless) item, though Hippaul could be raced all the way to 100 for no further gain if you happened to be insane. Just as insane was the fact that this challenge could only be done during one point of the game, making its prize missable.
