6. Jumping Rope (IX)
What could've been more infuriating then racing a hippo-human hybrid hundreds of times and running the risk of getting carpal tunnel in the process? Surely not something as simple as skipping?
Wrong. Hitting yourself with the rope would've been a less painful alternative to trying to master Final Fantasy IX's skipping mini-game, which tasked players with jumping in time to the movement of a rope. There were a number of speeds and the first few were a breeze, but after 100 the pace ramped up significantly.
The requirement for the mini-game's highest reward (another unique yet pointless item) was 1000, requiring more than eight minutes of non-stop concentration and perfect timing. Just to make things even harder was the addition of a slight delay after every two swings between 200 and 300, before yet another increase in speed was thrown in after that.
Those without incredible reflexes never stood a chance, whilst even those that did now have a much harder time on the Playstation 4 given that its emulation results in a slight input lag. As a result, the 'King Of Jump Rope' could be the most elusive item in Final Fantasy history, except perhaps one...
