10. Never Getting A Legendary Item From A Legendary Engram
Inspired by the likes of Diablo, Bungie implemented a system in Destiny which makes loot more of a risk/reward. Rare and Legendary items will only drop in Engram form; these must be taken to the Cryptarch who will then turn them into an item, according to which Engram you currently possess. While it might seem like a superfluous step, it actually makes the whole thing a lot more exciting as you're left in anticipation of what your newly acquired item could be. ...Or that's the theory anyway. For whatever reason, Bungie decided that Engrams should be able to produce gear lower than their rating; for example, a Legendary Engram can turn into a Rare (or, horrifically, into an Uncommon) item, worth substantially less. It actually makes Legendary items much, much harder to find; most Legendary Engrams will simply turn into a useless Rare or some semi-helpful currency like Strange Coins. Or, in more bizarre circumstances...
9. ...Then Getting One For A Different Class
...You can actually wind up with an item that you will never be able to use. Destiny's class system isn't as strict as similar systems in other games but it does dictate your abilities and sub-classes. Gear will only be wearable by one specific class (as pointed out by the item) and usually, you'll only get gear for the class you're playing as. However, as we've already seen with the Engram system, Destiny's randomised systems aren't kind to players. When you finally do get a Legendary item out of a Legendary Engram, don't be surprised to find it's for a different class and therefore, completely unusable. This alone has turned the Cryptarch into Destiny's biggest villain; seriously, there's some crazy hate out there for the guy. Thankfully, Bungie have announced plans to patch the game and make the Engram system fairer and more rewarding; soon we'll be complaining about having too many Legendaries!
8. The Murder Cave
Destiny's PvE loot systems are slightly weird; killing enemies at any level will drop loot (or Engrams) appropriate for your level. Basically, a Level 20 player could run around killing Level 1 enemies and still get valuable loot. Based on this, people began to farm the lower level areas of the game as there was no point in killing the tougher enemies if the loot was the same. Then, one day, one heroic, fabled Guardian stumbled upon a discovery which would change loot farming forever. The Murder Cave, as it is affectionately known, is located in Old Russia and it spawns enemies incredibly fast; if every enemy spawned in the cave is killed, it takes only six seconds for another load to appear. People took advantage of this and camped outside, slaughtering enemies by the thousands before running inside and gathering up the loot, in scenes very similar to the one above. The Murder Cave may have been patched since (although new ones seem to be popping up every day) but it will never be forgotten by loot hungry Guardians.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
