15 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined Grand Theft Auto

4. No Planes (GTA IV)

GTA III introduced planes into the franchise with the notoriously difficult-to-pilot Dodo, before Vice City and San Andreas added planes that didn't crash shortly after take-off. Curious it was, then, that GTA IV didn't allow players to fly any planes whatsoever, despite the code apparently existing within the game to do so. Rockstar commented that Liberty City's map was just too small (which is a whole other problem in of itself) to facilitate the flying of a plane, much to the chagrin of just about any GTA nut. With the series making its seventh-generation debut, fans couldn't wait to get their hands on some jet-planes to surge through a shiny new Liberty City at lightning speed, but players had to settle for piloting a helicopter to get their picturesque views of the metropolis. Given how the map still wasn't exactly tiny, this felt like a cop-out on the part of Rockstar, who at least saw the error of their ways and made a big deal out of planes in GTA V.
