15 Worst Video Game Characters Of 2013

3. Deadpool (Deadpool)

Spiderman is probably the most well known "smart ass" in Marvel lore, taking every opportunity to throw out his "witty" puns. Even in the midst of battle. It's a grating characteristic that over the years has sneaked into every Spiderman video game and become more annoying as the games have gone on with Web of Shadows being a particularly douchey entry. This year didn't see the release of a new Spiderman game but Marvel made sure that I still had to reach for the mute button by bringing out a game based on their other "hilarious" smart ass, Deadpool. In fact, Deadpool's sense of humour is so well known that he is referred to as the "Merc with the Mouth." In this year's Deadpool game, not only did they miss the mark on humour but on most other aspects of the game as well. From the first time you press a button, Deadpool continually breaks the fourth wall by making reference to himself being in a game. Fun for about 12 seconds, it becomes increasingly tiresome when he's done it a hundred more times before the end of the tutorial. He knows he's in a game and refers to it ad nauseum, including references to other games and needlessly unfunny references to pop culture for the sheer sake of having references to pop culture. Not tired of jokes about YOLO yet? Well Deadpool has your back. Nolan North does his best with the material but it all fails horribly. It does try but is mostly retreading material that was done better in Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. It's all well and good insisting of making everyone aware you're in a video game but when the video game isn't great then why draw attention to it.
