16 Crucial Questions For 2016's Most Anticipated Video Games
8. Are Quantum Break's Live-Action TV Episodes A Huge Waste Of Money?
Release Date: April 5 Remedy Entertainment's ambitious actioner divides gameplay into segments, and after each level ends, an episode of the slick TV show portion of the game will play, presenting players with the antagonist's perspective and helping them make choices to influence the gameplay itself. It's a novel idea and Remedy have clearly spared no expense, hiring the likes of Shawn Ashmore, Aidan Gillen, Dominic Monaghan and Lance Reddick to perform in these glossily-produced scenes, but it remains to be seen whether gamers are going to want their play to be continually broken up by large chunks of live-action video where the player has zero control to even move the camera or zoom in (as they can in the cut-scene driven Metal Gear Solid games). Prediction: Given that there are reportedly only four 22-minute episodes in the game, it's hard not to suspect that Remedy may have oversold their original concept a little, but crucially, it's highly unlikely that the inclusion of these episodes will have a particularly huge impact on the game for the better. They'll probably be praised for their production quality and the performances, but at the end of the day, if the game doesn't run to a decent length without these episodes, gamers are going to be understandably sour, and above all else, gamers want to game, not watch a movie.
