7. Donkey Kong Started Life As A Licensed Popeye Title

Many people know of Mario's origins as 'Jumpman'; the little fella in Donkey Kong before he embarked on his own adventures - but ol' DK himself didn't even originate as an ape either. Instead Nintendo had a licensed deal to create a Popeye game, with the large lumbering Bluto design eventually transferring into Kong.
