The weirdest thing about continuing Mass Effect after the burning car crash that was the third instalment, is figuring out just how much you want to break away from the established stories we know are supposedly still canon. Tales of 'The Shepard' are supposed to be ringing around the galaxy no matter which ending you chose, meaning Bioware have to be very careful which threads (if any) they use to make Andromeda a continuation of the franchise. On the other hand, the lore and various universes within Mass Effect are ripe for the taking when it comes to delving into interracial politics, humanity's 'place' amongst other creatures that have been doing their thing for thousands of years, and the advancement of technology overall. Mass Effect is still the finest sci-fi tale ever told in gaming, and no matter how much those final 20 minutes stung like hell, the other 200 hours of content remains the most exemplary thing Bioware have ever put out. Whatever happens with Andromeda story-wise, here's hoping the rumours of base-building, crafting, loot-grinding and hardcore stat-tracking are true. It's about time Mass Effect was an RPG again.
