16 Severely Underrated Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance

6. Lost Odyssey

Put simply, if you're one of those RPG fans who forever hankers for the old days of turn-based goodness, Lost Odyssey is the game for you, in spades. Firstly, Final Fantasy music-maestro Nobuo Uematsu headed up the score, so everything from boss themes to general world-traversal sounds incredibly epic - and that's before you get to one of the best stories and world concepts in RPG history. Spread across multiple discs on the 360, you play as Kaim, an ancient warrior who's essentially immortal - letting the scriptwriters tap into a variety of visual novel-esque descriptions showing his most meaningful past interactions with people who he always outlives for better or worse - as well as setting up a world where a resurgence of magic has essentially sparked a global revolution. Combat-wise it takes the Gunblade feature from Final Fantasy VIII and builds an entire system out of it, relying on specific timing windows to dole out extra damage, but it's the presentation of everything from the varied cast of characters to the turn-based nature of combat and especially that gorgeous score that elevates the whole thing above anything Square's put out in years.
