17 Classic Video Games That Must Be Remade
2. Shenmue 1 & 2
Original Release Date: December 29, 1999 (Shenmue), September 6, 2001 (Shenmue II)
With Shenmue III due for release next year, there have been persistent rumours that the first two games will get some sort of remake/remaster treatment, in order to sell the new game to a far larger audience.
Considering that the two original games are a bit of a pain to play these days, primarily due to the awkward camera and controls, a remake that fixes these issues while re-recording the hilariously wooden voice acting would certainly not go amiss.
How Likely Is It?: A remaster is much more probable than a ground-up remake, really, given the relatively short time until Shenmue III will (apparently) hit stores, but don't be surprised if it pulls a Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and basically ends up looking more like a fully re-built game rather than a quick re-skin.
The rumours have been persistent enough and it makes a lot of financial sense, so if this collection isn't announced by next year's E3, it'd be pretty damn surprising. Fingers crossed.
