17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come

9. Super Mario Galaxy

Nintendo gets a lot of flak at the moment for being behind the times with the Wii U's graphical prowess and inferior sales to the Xbox One and PS4, but if there's one thing Nintendo always proves, it's that they know how to make damn fine games. Such was proved with one of the Wii's best games, Super Mario Galaxy. Not since the glorious Super Mario 64 had a Mario game felt this good; deliciously innovative with gravity-defying puzzles, loads of stuff to do, a fantastic, orchestral soundtrack and the usual Mario charm alongside, Galaxy took us on a space-bending romp through the cosmos. Along the way you will be collecting Power Stars, beating up Bowser and - of course - saving the princess. It even had genuinely excellent graphics for a Wii game, putting practically everything else to shame. It's somewhat ironic that one of the best games on the Wii isn't particularly built around the Wii's main selling point, motion control. You can use the Wiimote to collect star bits and to execute a spin attack, but the main gameplay is still centred around classic Mario gameplay with a diminished focus on waggling about like a numpty. It's for the best as well; Mario Galaxy plays fantastically and a hefty dollop of motion control probably would have put that in jeopardy. Will Super Mario Galaxy ever be considered in the same leagues as Mario 64? That's up for debate.
