17 Last-Gen Video Games That Will Be Viewed As Classics In Years To Come

10. Batman: Arkham Asylum

What do you get when you combine the vast mythos of one of the world's most renowned superheroes, a stellar voice cast and a relatively unknown developer? Batman Arkham Asylum, the gaming world's renaissance of the superhero genre. Asylum may have been somewhat trumped by its sequel, Arkham City, in the polished stakes, but the original game with its sprawling environments, revolutionary combat, stealth sections and memorable moment after memorable moment remains a high point not only for the last generation's games, but also the world of Batman in general. Penned by veteran comic book scribe Paul Dini and with the respective voice talents of Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (The Joker) from the critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series in tow, Arkham Asylum delivered on all fronts - both from a gameplay standpoint and in terms of story (bar the slightly silly ending). It's no wonder that this has since spawned two sequels, with a third - Batman Arkham Knight - due for release in July 2015. There's just something that feels right about playing as Batman in these games; whether it's the satisfying, slow motion punch after chaining together a combo of 60 hits as you finish off the last villain or silently picking off thugs one by one and causing them to panic. Here's hoping that Arkham Knight can be considered every bit of a classic in a few years when it hits on PS4 and Xbox One in 2015.
