18 Essential Xbox One Games Every Owner Must Play

11. Ori & The Blind Forest

Ori and the Blind Forest
Microsoft/Moon
I can't say enough good things about Ori's inaugural adventure, but I'll certainly try. MOON Studios' first game was a combined effort from many studios across the world, the final product being a gorgeously tight platformer with some of the best art design seen in decades.

From moonlit swamps, warm, aqua blue pools and death-dealing collapsing chambers, it's easily a frontrunner for the finest platformer of the generation. Oh, and don't let its fantastical exterior fool you, it's hard as nails.

See, by 'cashing in' your builtup power usually reserved for projectiles and attacks, you can create a makeshift checkpoint, meaning you dictate your difficulty to a certain degree. Simply place one down before a particularly taxing section and one button-restart your way through, Super Meat Boy-style - which you'll need, because some of the runs it asks you to perform are real tests of memorisation and pure skill-based timing.

Factor in a Super Metroid-esque world design, a slew of power-ups that evolve Ori's abilities, a story that'll play your heartstrings like an emotionally-charged Disney cartoon, and you've got this brilliant final product.
