Imagine being someone who played 2013’s mobile sensation Flappy Bird and didn’t realise the art was basically lifted from Super Mario Bros. Those same people probably won’t recognise this sound effect from the classic 1985 NES game. Those people clearly missed out, big time!

The pipe warp in Super Mario Bros. is incredible the first time you experience it. Perhaps less now, but in the late 80s, when gaming was still finding its feet, seeing Mario get transported to an underground world was remarkable.

It helped that the pipe shimmying was accompanied by a sound effect that has stood the test of time, standing now as a little jingle instantly recognisable by anyone who has dabbled with a Mario game.
