Resident Evil has been home to some wonderful (terrifying) sounds over its history. Whether it is the sound of a zombie, the powerful explosion of a shotgun, or the reassuring tap tap tap of the typewriter, there’s plenty to look back on fondly. But one character, complete with his greeting, stands out above the rest.
The merchant in Resident Evil 4 is the perfect example of lesser character stealing the show, and it’s all down to how he talks to the player.
“Over here, stranger!”, “Got some rare things on sale, stranger!”, “Welcome!”, “Got somethin' that might interest ya'.” All phrases this great man uttered in Resident Evil 4. Of course, players desperate for more ammo or a better weapon would more often than not be told: “Not enough cash, stranger.”
Resident Evil 4 is one of the greatest games of all time, and the merchant, memorable phrases included, is the greatest shop in video game history.
