15. Nightvision On - Splinter Cell (Xbox, 2002)
Remember Splinter Cell? This Ubisoft franchise kicked off in 2002 on the Xbox (later coming to just about every platform going) and won over critics and gamers with its superb visuals and thrilling stealth gameplay. Over the years since Sam Fisher has had a rather troubled time meaning he’s not quite the draw he once was - Splinter Cell Blacklist, the last entry in the series, released almost four years ago.
One thing that can’t be doubted though, is just how cool it is when you switch on Sam’s night vision goggles. The image of Sam, dressed in black, skulking in shadows, the three green dots of his mask shining through, is iconic itself, but it’s the sound that really takes you back.
