19. Demon's Souls
Ah, Demon's Souls. Like Dark Souls after it, this game is a relentlessly difficult slog through a hostile environment where literally everything from the local populace to massive, clearly unfairly powerful demons want to slay you and dance a jig on your corpse. Demon's Souls plays very much like Dark Souls, but is - despite many thinking that Dark Souls is perhaps one of gaming's hardest experiences - a much, much more difficult game. Gone are the sporadic bonfire checkpoints of Dark Souls; instead you get an entry at a level, a checkpoint after certain bosses and that's it. You die, you're going back miles. I actually went into Demon's Souls after mastering Dark Souls, confident that I'd be able to do reasonably well. Boy, was I wrong. The nearest monster squarely chopped off my arse, cooked it, and then handed it to me on a silver platter. Then it did it again, and then I got a bit further, and then it happened again. If you love gaming with a bit of a challenge, Demon's Souls is the PS3 game you should be looking for.
