Super Smash Bros. Brawl received its formal unveiling by Nintendo during E3 2006, at which point the reveal trailer also gave fans something they'd been requesting for years - Solid freakin' Snake as a playable character.

After the trailer for Brawl seemingly came to an end, the setting suddenly shifted to Solid Snake's codec, where Colonel Campbell informed him that he's been invited to join the roster of the new game.

Snake isn't hugely enthusiastic about it, noting that he's on "reconnaissance duty," before the trailer cuts to him hiding in a cardboard box in the middle of a Smash battle. Snake then pops out of the box, to a huge round of applause from the E3 audience.

It later turned out that Hideo Kojima apparently "begged" Nintendo to include Snake in the game despite him not being a Nintendo property. Snake's inclusion proved popular enough that he was brought back for the most recent entry, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
