Sometimes all it takes is a few words - a mere number, even - to change the course of gaming history, and that's precisely what Sony did at E3 1995 when they announced the price of the first PlayStation console.

At E3 '95, Sega announced that the Sega Saturn would retail for $399, and so all it took for Sony to gain a major foothold was have Sony exec Steve Race walk up to the stage, say "299," and leave to a round of applause.

It was the moment that cooked the Sega Saturn's goose - undercutting it by a whole $100, and kickstarting Sony's near-30 years of success in the home console arena.
