20 Best Game Boy & Game Boy Colour Games Of All Time

7. Donkey Kong (1994)

Imagine if the original arcade Donkey Kong game just kept on going. That's what Donkey Kong for the Game Boy does, it builds upon the mechanics introduced in the arcade classic with 97 additional levels added on to the pre-existing four arcade ones.

The extra levels involve Mario finding keys to unlock doors whilst avoiding enemies. Every once in a while you'll encounter Donkey Kong which will result in a much more traditional DK level.

The game involves Mario trying to rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong which marks the second time on this list where Mario has been trying something with somebody other than Princess Peach. Disgusting behaviour.

Whilst few people seem to actually remember this game, those who do rightfully herald it as one of the best titles on the handheld.

It was so good that it started its own set of games, the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, you know, the series which nobody plays but still keeps popping up all the time. The problem with the Mario vs. Donkey Kong franchise is that it already peaked with this game so it was only downhill from here.
