14. Super Mario Land

On the surface, Super Mario Land might look like nothing more than Super Mario Bros. lite. Whilst that's not exactly inaccurate, the game is really primitive, Super Mario Land does enough to distinguish itself from the other Mario games and manages to become its own thing that's worth a play.

For a start, the game takes place in kingdoms models after real-life areas, yeah suck it Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Land did it first. You travel through worlds that are definitely not just Egypt, the ocean, Easter Island, and China.

Super Mario Land also has shoot 'em up segments where you pilot a submarine or a plane depending on the level.

It introduces the Superball Flower which turns you into Superball Mario. This power-up is only in this game and Super Mario Maker 2 and works as this game's equivalent to the Fire Flower, allowing you to throw a ball that will ricochet across the level killing enemies and collecting coins.

Finally, if you wondered where Princess Daisy comes from it's this game. In Super Mario Land Mario appears to cheat on Peach with Daisy... how heroic.
