20 Best NES Games Of All Time
15. StarTropics
If we lived in a just world then the StarTropics series would be up there with the likes of Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda as a beloved still relevant Nintendo franchise. Instead, the StarTropics series is an NES duology that has fans yet it is clear at this point that the series is truly dead.
Whilst both games are great, it's the original that gets a place on the list as the game is a slightly more enjoyable experience.
In StarTropics you play as Mike Jones - because this game was aimed at Americans and Mike Jones is genuinely the most American sounding name ever. Mike goes to visit his Uncle on C-Island yet when the boy arrives he finds out that his Uncle has disappeared. I won't spoil what happens beyond this because StarTropics is one of the few NES games with a pretty good story.
Gameplay-wise StarTropics feels very Zelda-like. You navigate a large world from a top-down perspective and visit many dungeons. The thing is, StarTropics has a tropical modern setting which gives the game its own identity.
StarTropics is just a fun time that you should definitely check out. It's also aged quite well which can't be said for most NES games.
