Don't be surprised if, in about 15 or so years from now, a lot of game developers' backgrounds start to sound eerily similar to each other thanks to this game.

Super Mario Maker was the last truly great game for the Wii U. Granted it didn't have much in the way of competition for that title, but Mario Maker definitely gave it some legitimacy before the end. We're going with the first one here because while the second has more bits and bobs, the first one had the pizzazz of being brand new. There simply wasn't a builder engine commercially available that was this advanced while also being accessible.

Almost makes one wonder if this was just a way of Nintendo subtly training the next generation of Nintendo game devs. If so, brilliant plan, and a brilliant game to boot. Now you can make your own Mario levels, which can be as easy or as hard as you want them to be, and in any style from 8-bit to 3D to boot.

Super Mario Maker didn't just show people how a Mario game is made, they showed people how fun game development can be in general.
