20 Best Sci-Fi Video Games Of All Time
5. Halo: Combat Evolved
Now a days any game with a popular battle royale mode is tipped to be the next Fortnite killer, and is expected to Be better and dethrone it as the best battle royale around. The term can be traced back to Halo Combat Evolved, where its success was so alluring that multiple games were made with similar styles and mechanics, in the hope of becoming the next big thing. But, much like Fortnite, Halo’s many imitators were not able to knock the real thing off its pedestal, and it remained as one of the greatest games of its generation.
Originally intended to be a real-time strategy game, then a third-person shooter, Bungie eventually decided to make Halo a first-person shooter. The game is set on the now legendary Halo ring as players fight Covenant forces as the iconic Masterchief.
During development, Microsoft acquired Bungie and turned the game into a launch title for the Xbox. The early success of the console is largely attributed to the success of Halo itself, which would eventually evolve into a multi-billion-dollar multimedia franchise.
Halo’s legacy can be seen throughout the industry, as it is regarded as the gold standard for first person shooters.
