When Todd Howard came out on stage at Bethesda's E3 event, fans knew s**t was about to go down. Not only offering a deep dive into their first attempt at a multiplayer shooter in Fallout 76, the developer also confirmed to the world that the long-rumoured sci-fi RPG Starfield was indeed real.

Showing little other than a teaser trailer confirming the space setting, it was more the energy surrounding the reveal that made it so special. This is Bethesda's first original property in over 25 years, presenting an entirely new universe for one of the world's greatest studios to play around with, adding an element of mystery to the project their other franchises just don't have.

With Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, fans know to an extent what they're getting. Starfield, on the other hand, is an unknown quantity, and the idea of the team's great RPG gameplay and storytelling abilities being transferred over to the sci-fi genre is a tantalising one.

So, yeah, it might be the promise of what Starfield could be rather than what it is right now that's the most exciting, but in a way, that's what E3's all about.
