13. Yakuza 6: The Song Of Life
Advertised as being the "final chapter" to Kazuma Kiryu's longstanding obsession with battering goons' faces to dust, Yakuza 6 weaves a satisfying murder mystery-esque yarn where Kiryu must locate his missing surrogate daughter Haruka, while unpacking the factional gang warfare going on in new location, Hiroshima.
All the series trappings are back. Minigames range from emulations of Virtua Fighter 5 and Puyo-Puyo to top-down RTS deviations, karaoke, darts, mahjong and more, you'll unlock a steady array of brutally violent melee finishers, and the beloved franchise's quirky humour is back in the side missions.
At this stage, Yakuza knows exactly what it is, how to deliver Metal Gear-level plot twists and how to keep you engaged through gameplay alone the whole time. Semi-annoyingly, Song of Life's pacing really drags for the first 12-14 hours, encouraging you to get lost in all the aforementioned gameplay possibilities, but following that it's a blast to see out - even if its overall "final chapter-ness" isn't quite as ballsy as the marketing would have you believe.
