20 Best Video Games Of 2018
6. Dragon Ball FighterZ
There has not been a fighting game as essential as Dragon Ball FighterZ since Injustice 2, and that's counting Tekken 7. Seeing Guilty Gear devs Arc System Works apply their stunning 2D-meets-3D graphics engine to arguably the best anime series of all time - or at least, the most recognisable - is a match made in anime heaven.
In terms of how it all plays, you'll put together a team of three, pitting them against a smattering of difficulty ladders or online opponents. Combat is like controlling a firework display; benefitting from auto-combos and a dedicated ranged button if you're starting out, through to a ludicrous amount of rock, paper, scissors-esque counters, special moves, dodges and late-match finishers.
Going from flailing around, figuring out when to attack and block, through to demolishing opponents with screen-filling specials, is one of DB FighterZs' greatest strengths, and though the learning curve is steep, surmounting it feels AMAZING.
