20 Best Video Games Of 2018

5. Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter World
Capcom

Speaking of a harsh but rewarding learning curve, Monster Hunter: World is the epitome of everything the franchise has been building towards since 2004.

Graphics are suitably impressive, creating the most intimidating version of something like a Diablos yet. This increased sense of scope and scale translates into a huge array of armour and weapon combos to craft and perfect too. The former relates to tackling the game's titular monsters, as the bigger a beast is, the more spoils you'll get, and the better gear you'll be able to make on the other side.

Such a pull is what draws in teams of hunters to fight Capcom's most formidable foes, and though you can play the whole thing solo, dropping in to help out random people, posse'ing up with a squad, learning your weapons and deploying strategies is where this turns into an even more memorable and addictive experience.

To this day, there are hunters trying to carve off specific scales or teeth to create one ultra-rare weapon that'll let them fight an even higher-ranked foe. It's a beautiful circle, and the franchise's debut on powerful home console tech was long overdue.
