20 Essential Gaming Sequels That Must Be Announced In 2014

9. Tomb Raider Reboot Sequel

Last year's Tomb Raider reboot turned out to be one of the best games of the entire year, completely reinventing Lara Croft with a slick, Uncharted-esque gameplay system, complete with gorgeous graphics, and a more gritty depiction of its famous star. It was everything an action adventure game needed to be, and as a result wasn't just a critical hit, but also scored the highest sales of the franchise's history. After several games out in the wilderness, Lara is back and better than ever. This success of course kick-started discussion of a sequel, which is going to follow on from the Dark Horse comic book series currently being written. Square Enix have confirmed that the game is already underway, with one team member commenting that of the game, "the next chapter of development... her life is changing. She can't go back to the way she was." A 2015 release date may be optimistic, but 2016 seems pretty likely, and as such a late-2014 reveal would give Square Enix adequate time to go on the PR offensive and sell the game.
