20 Essential Gaming Sequels That Must Be Announced In 2014
16. Next-Gen Silent Hill
Much like the Resident Evil franchise, Silent Hill is a series which was once mighty and original, though has fallen to developer concessions to make the game more accessible over the years. The last installment, 2012's Downpour, was critically savaged and a poor seller, making it unclear whether the series is even going to continue beyond a spate of HD remakes and PSVita spin-offs. Shortly after Downpour's relief, it was announced that Metal Gear Solid's Hideo Kojima expressed an interest in directing the next game, though it's difficult to believe this will ever come to light. The last few core Silent Hill games have had a 4-year gap between them, so we probably shouldn't expect a new game until 2016, and hopefully by that point Konami will have figured out a way to revitalise the franchise. Much like Resident Evil, this is a property that's been run into the ground so much that it's totally ripe for a reboot that returns to its roots. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
