Although she's often brought up in the conversation of "look, video games can't be sexist because we have characters like this!" that reductive kind of thinking hasn't lessened the memory of how much of an interesting and refreshing character Alyx Vance was when she first premiered. More than anything else, Alyx managed to humanise the Half-Life series. Because, for as much as everyone loves old crowbar-wielding Gordon Freeman, he wasn't the best at articulating his emotions, speaking or doing anything at all.
