When the Orange Box launched, it was one of the best deals in gaming ever. It contained Half-Life 2, Episode 1 & 2, Team Fortress 2, and some little puzzle game that nobody paid much attention to before its release. That small puzzle game turned out to be Portal, possibly the biggest surprise hit in the history of gaming. Successful enough to spawn a full-featured sequel, Portal was capable of blowing the mind of anyone that played it with its brain-boggling interpretation of physics. The Portal Gun itself made for an incredibly original game mechanic, that resembled nothing that had been seen before. Portal is a great game based on the strength of its gameplay alone, but it was the snide, hilarious GLaDOS that thrust the game into the realm of popular culture. A true original, Portal is well deserving of its recognition as one of the best games of all time.
