20 Greatest Sci-Fi Video Games Of All-Time

14. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Say what you want about Star Wars€™ €˜a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away€™ premise making it a fantasy universe: with its futuristic technologies, alien planets, T-65 X-wing spaceships and robots, the universe of George Lucas€™ Star Wars is definitive sci-fi game fodder. The universe of Star Wars may be richly detailed with its many star systems, alien species and futuristic weapons but there are very few games which have made the most of this extensive lore. From Star Wars: Bounty Hunter to Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi (a terrifically bad beat €˜em up), the galaxy far, far away is littered with mediocre games which don€™t do the franchise justice. By far the best Star Wars game is BioWare€™s Knights Of The Old Republic. With its gripping narrative and exceptional interactive storytelling, KOTOR is one of the few games in the hugely successful sci-fi franchise which gave you the sense of freedom to act autonomously and actually feel like a person who belonged in Lucas€™ (or is it now Disney€™s?!) universe. Moreover, BioWare would craft a plethora of intricate worlds to play host to the game€™s satisfying lightsaber battles; all of which were based on the deep d20 dice-rolling combat system they had used to such great effect in Baldur€™s Gate and Neverwinter Nights.
