Developer: Ironclad Games Released: 2012 Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is a game for sci-fi fans that enjoy the space battles above all else. Although it features many elements from the 4X genre, Sins of a Solar Empire is played in real-time, to compliment its many large-scale skirmishes. As with most strategy titles based around spacefaring empires, Sins looks a bit overwhelming to begin with. However, it's about as streamlined as you can get, and anyone even remotely familiar with traditional RTS games or 4X titles like Civilization will be on their feet in no time. Defending against pirates, protecting trade routes and razing enemy planets is all hugely fun (and incredibly intense,) making Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion a relatively fast spacefaring strategy game that's well worth picking up.
