DayZ is a free mod for ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead, and takes the form of an open-world, multiplayer-only survival horror game. DayZ drops players right in at the deep end, from the very beginning. Starting with just a torch and a few supplies, players must venture into abandoned buildings and desolate towns in order to find water, food and weaponry. In the early stages, it's all too easy to be overwhelmed by a pack of roaming zombies, but the real danger is your fellow man. A game that's been truly shaped by its community, DayZ features groups of marauding bandits, game-ruining hackers and heroic vigilantes all in equal measure. If the standalone DayZ can match up to the original mod's potential, it could easily be the greatest online survival game ever made.
