20 Greatest Zombie Games Ever

17. Dead Rising

Developer: Capcom Production Studio 1 Released: 2006 Platform: Xbox 360 Dead Rising was what zombie fans had been wanting for years. A survival game in which the player is trapped in a shopping mall, just like Dawn of the Dead. Of course, unlike Romero's cinematic classic, it's also possible to wield toy lightsabers against the undead, but that's no bad thing. Despite being the first in the series, the original Dead Rising arguably offers the best zombie survival experience. It was silly, but the zombies still always felt dangerous, and the comedy wasn't quite as over-the-top slapstick as in the sequels. The idea of a 72-hour time limit in which you could save survivors, record the events through photos, or just mess around trying on clothing was inspired, and heavily rewarded multiple playthroughs. If it weren't for the half-baked, unnecessary boss fights and some irritating technical issues, the first Dead Rising would be a lot higher on this list.
