20 Most Important Gaming Deaths This Decade

9. Prophet - Crysis 2 (2011)

Crysis 2 begins in explosive style, as the USS Nautilus is destroyed by Ceph insurgents in New York City, apparently killing everyone on board. However, Force Recon Marine "Alcatraz" narrowly survives, being rescued from the water by the protagonist of the first game, Prophet. He takes Alcatraz to dry land, gives him his nanosuit and then commits suicide, as this is the only way that the suit will be able to adjust to Alcatraz's mind and body. A shocking move considering how the first Crysis painted Prophet as the Master Chief-type character for the Crysis franchise, Prophet nevertheless still hung around in spirit, given how Alcatraz experiences some of Prophet's memories from within the suit, as well a number of messages he left behind for him. It's suggested at the end of the game that Prophet's spirit has somehow been maintained within the suit, leading to Crysis 3, which sees Alcatraz being completely assimilated by Prophet's personality, essentially causing Alcatraz to be braindead. One great rule of sci-fi: if someone dies, it never has to be forever.
