20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About GTA

2. The GTA Franchise Was A Total Accident

The fact that the GTA series even exists is merely a happy accident that occurred during the development of DMA Design's (who eventually became Rockstar North) game Race'n'Chase, which originally saw the player taking the role of either a cop or criminal and facing off against the opposing side. However, a glitch caused the police cars to be unnecessarily aggressive in chasing down the criminals, even trying to ram them off the road, and this turned out to be one of the game's most popular features with testers, so DMA kept it in and ultimately decided to remove the ability to play as a cop. Following on from that, the lame title was dropped and Grand Theft Auto was born. It's terrifying to think that without this glitch, gamers the world over might not have one of the most treasured video game franchises in history.
